The UN’s top court has said Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories is against international law, in a landmark opinion.

Hamas has tentatively accepted a US-backed proposal for a phased ceasefire, abandoning demands for an upfront commitment by Israel to end the war entirely. This could initiate a six-week ceasefire for hostage and prisoner exchanges and pave the way for broader talks to conclude the nine-month conflict.
