Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday that Ukraine had presented Moscow with a draft peace deal containing “unacceptable” elements at variance with a previous agreement, comments that Kyiv dismissed as “pure propaganda”.

EUROPE is “split” over the direction in which peace negotiations should go between Russia and Ukraine in a very subtle way, journalist Mutaz Ahmed told a podcast.

Russia said that it has halted the attack on Kyiv as a ‘goodwill gesture’ to promote peace talks, but it will end its ‘military operation’ only if Zelenskyy agrees on these two conditions.

During an interview with Ukrainian journalists broadcast on national television, Zelensky said, “All of us, including myself, will perceive even the possibility of negotiations as a challenge.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday it had become harder for his country to negotiate with Russia since Kyiv became aware of the scale of atrocities carried out by Russian troops in Ukraine.

Russia said on Sunday that peace talks with Ukraine had not progressed enough for a leaders’ meeting and that Moscow’s position on the status of Crimea and Donbas remained unchanged.

Russia and Ukraine are talking, but huge gulfs remain.

Kyiv and its allies suggest the Kremlin may be merely playing for time to allow its military forces to regroup.
